Why do prisons have razor wire?

The fences are usually very high and are made up of sturdy iron chain nets. The top part is often wrapped with steel wire or razor wire, and multiple layers of fences are often stacked on top of each other to form a tight security system. Even those old prisons will add iron chain nets or razor wire on the top of the thick stone walls to enhance their security.
